Open Storytimes: The library invites children ages 6 and under and their families to attend these 30-minute sessions that feature stories and songs held at 6:30 p.m. today, 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, and 10:30 a.m. Thursday. An adult must accompany children under the age of 3. No registration is required.
Adoption Records -- Unraveling the Red Tape: The library welcomes Dawn Saphir, representative from the Des Plaines-based Midwest Adoption Center, for a 7:30 p.m. program today, designed for individuals and families touched by adoption. Participants will discover how to obtain non-identifying information and adoption search assistance, and learn more about the Illinois Adoption Registry.
Food for Thought: The library's Food for Thought book group meets at 1 p.m. Wednesday, for a discussion of Nathan Philbrick's "Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community and War." Books are available at the Fiction/AV/Teen Desk. No registration is required.
Genealogy Database: Genealogy librarian Anne Shaughnessy will present an overview of the "Ancestry Library Edition" database at 7 p.m. Thursday.
This genealogy resource allows library patrons free access to more than 4 billion names and features census, birth, marriage, death, immigration, military and probate records.
Movies @ MPPL: The library presents a complimentary movie screening at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Thursday. For more information on this month's featured film, call (847) 253-5675.
Due to a restrictive marketing agreement, the library is prevented from reporting the title of this film in media aimed at the general public.
Retro Gaming: Students and teens in grades 6-12 can recall the pre-video game era with an evening of "retro" board, paper and card games held 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Challenge old friends and meet new ones while enjoying snacks provided by the library.
Super Saturday: David Fisher, aka "The Rope Warrior," will deliver spectacular routines with power, finesse, and breakneck speed during this high-energy performance from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday. His choreographed rope tricks include compelling music, a light show, jumping rope in a balloon and other special effects.
eBay Selling Basics -- An Overview: Learn the secrets to being an eBay "Power Seller" at 7:30 p.m. Monday during this insightful 90-minute presentation led by Jack Waddick, eBay University Instructor and Education Specialist. Beginners and veteran eBay users will learn something new as Jack goes live to eBay.com.
Tales From the Front: The library will honor the courage and sacrifices of all who have served in the United States Armed Forces at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13, when it hosts a panel of veterans from Mount Prospect VFW Post 1337.
The panel consists of David Johnson (served in the European Theater of Operations, World War II); Howard Richardson (Asian Theater of Operations, World War II); Bill Starr (Vietnam, Bosnia and Kosovo); George B. Lampere, Ph.D. (Vietnam); and John "Dutch" DeGroot (Vietnam, Global War on Terrorism).
Panel members will share their individual experiences serving in uniform and discuss why they volunteered to put their lives on the line in defense of their country.
This Veterans Day observance is co-sponsored by the Mount Prospect Historical Society.
