River Trails plans carnival fun, with goal to help others
The River Trails Middle School kids plan on giving a charity a check with proceeds from a winter carnival later this month.
The carnival will be from 1 to 3 p.m. for students only on Dec. 21 at the school, 1000 N. Wolf Road in Mount Prospect.
This year, students have voted to donate the money to Shelter Inc., a local organization that provides emergency and temporary housing for thousands of children and adolescents from birth through age 17 in the Northwest suburbs that are abused, neglected, dependent or in need of supervision.
Last year, the carnival raised about $2,000 for charity.
Before the carnival, students will purchase tickets to be used to play games in each classroom. During the carnival, the tickets are collected and sent to the office, where raffle prizes are announced and awarded every 10 to 15 minutes.
The carnival began 14 years ago as a community service outgrowth from an advisory program initiated by the middle school.
Everyone can help support the 2007 Winter Carnival by donating raffle prizes. Items such as gift certificates, games, stuffed animals and hats are especially popular with the middle school students.
If you would like to donate a raffle prize, please bring it to the school office.
