Fundraiser supports kickboxer

A fundraiser for Aaron Swenson of Arlington Heights, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Wauconda Bowl, 381 W. Liberty (Rout. 176), Wauconda.

Proceeds support Swenson's participation on the U.S. Kickboxing Team trip to Portugal to compete in international competition.

The is cost $35, which includes bowling, pizza, raffle ticket prizes and pop. There will be a cash bar. The pre-party is from 4 to 6 p.m. featuring Chicago Bears vs. Oakland Raiders.

Veterans Day Mass to be at St. James

A special Veterans Day Mass of honor and remembrance will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, 800 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Those who have served and those currently serving will be honored. Veterans will serve as ministers at this liturgy. A special presentation will be made to the family of a local serviceman who died in action in Iraq.

Veterans event set for Sunday

A conference for all veterans and active duty service men and women will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 15 N. Hickory Ave. Arlington Heights. Pizza will be served at 4 p.m. The Rev. Charles Becker and guest speaker Andy Zovko from Medjugorje will share the gift of healing

Test your memory at Senior Center

The Arlington Heights Senior Center will hold memory screenings at 1801 W. Central Road, from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday. The screenings are conducted on a walk-in basis. The morning will also feature three special presentations: "Strategies for Successful Aging," at 9 a.m.; "Brain Blasting," at 10 a.m.; and "What is Normal Forgetfulness?" at 11 am. No reservations are needed for any of the presentations.

Legion collecting teddy bears

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 208 in Arlington Heights will hold a teddy bear drive for Operation Military Kids through Nov. 16. The teddy bears have to be 10 inches or larger, new or gently used. The drop-off places include: American Legion, 121 N. Douglas, Arlington Heights; Smiley's, 845 N. Wilke Road, Arlington Heights; Citgo Gas Station, Northwest Highway and Vail, Arlington Heights; Plaza Lane Restaurant, 3124 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows. Operation Military Kids is a support system for children whose soldier parents are deployed overseas. Call (847) 253-6632.
