Interfaith

The Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry will host an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 100 Flinn Drive in Batavia.

Guests are invited to see the new addition and remodeling. The addition was built with donations and much of the work was done by volunteers.

The Batavia Food Pantry was founded during the economic recession of 1981. Batavia churches were experiencing many requests for food by residents who were unemployed and unable to provide for their families.

The pantry serves more than 200 families a month. The pantry buys much of its food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank at reduced prices and receives donations from local businesses, schools and Scout groups. There is one paid employee and a staff of volunteers. Volunteers are always needed. Call Stan Johnston at (630) 879-3784 for information.

The Women's Club of St. Peter Catholic Church in Geneva will present its annual fashion show, "Wonderland of Fashion," at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pipers Banquets at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 501, 1295 Butterfield Road, just west of Kirk Road in Aurora.

Tickets for the event are $38 per person and $32 for seniors. The evening will feature fashions from area shops.

Cocktails are at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. featuring a choice of herbed lemon chicken topped with cognac cream sauce or baked orange roughy topped with slivered almonds.

The evening will also include a basket raffle with prizes donated by area businesses and by St. Peter Women's Club Guilds, and a cash raffle with a chance to win $500 or $250. Cash raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5, and winners need not be present.

Half of the proceeds will support the Women's Mite Fund which is used to help those in need within St. Peter Parish. Proceeds also fund the activities of the club's guilds and other parish projects.
