Basketball

Hersey Feeder tryouts: Hersey Feeder Basketball tryouts for boys in sixth, seventh and eighth grades will be held at the following times on both Dec. 15 and 16 in the East Gym at Hersey High School, 1900 E. Thomas, Arlington Heights.

• Sixth grade -- noon to 1:45 p.m.

• Seventh grade -- 2 to 3:45 p.m.

• Eighth grade -- 4 to 5:45 p.m.

Soccer

Aptakisic win: The Aptakisic Jr. High School seventh- and eighth-grade soccer team won the Patriot Conference for the 2007 season. In the Oct. 15 championship game, Aptakisic beat the Woodlawn Silver team 1-0. This is the second time the school's soccer team became the Patriot Conference Champion. The previous champion, the 2000 Aptakisic team, finished its entire season and tournament with 9 wins, while the 2007 soccer team won all 11 season games and the tournament.

The Patriot Conference is a league for schools attending Stevenson High School in the ninth-grade year. There are 10 teams, but four of the six schools have two teams, while Aptakisic has only one.

Softball

One-day clinic: Fastball USA will hold a one-day softball clinic Nov. 17 for coaches and players at 137 Diversey, Elmhurst. The UIC Flames coaching staff, Tom Grey, Sarah O'Malley and Allison Aguilar, along with UIC Flames players, will be on hand. The division I softball program will hold a coaches clinic from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and a players clinic from noon to 3 p.m. The clinic will cover the fundamentals of softball in several skill areas including infield and outfield defensive, plus offensive skills of hitting, bunting and slapping.

Swimming

Swim meet: The CATS Aquatics team will participate in the "W.T.S.C. Holiday Championship" swim meet Nov. 16 to 18 at the Indiana University Natatorium at I.U.P.U.I. in Indianapolis. This is a prelims/finals competition with teams from several states.

This venue has hosted USA Swimming Junior Nationals, Masters Nationals and the United States Olympic trials. To date, there have been 90 American records and 11 world records set in the pool.

Cats Aquatics is a U.S.A. Swimming chartered team with both developmental and competitive tracks. The team is under the direction of Jeff Arce, A.S.C.A. Level 3 and Brian Brown, A.S.C.A. Level 4 (American Swimming Coaches Association). Practices are held at Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High Schools in cooperation with District 128.
