Briefs: Suspect in federal custody

Police on Friday officially classified a man they have held since Wednesday as a suspect in the murder of a 25-year-old Aurora woman. Brenetta Beck was found stabbed to death in her east-side apartment early Tuesday. Her two young children, ages 16 months and 10 days, were unharmed. A 24-year-old Joliet man who knew Beck is the suspect. He has not been charged with murder, but police plan to hand him over to federal immigration officials for deportation because of his criminal background. If charged, the murder case would take precedence over the deportation, which would take several weeks. Police said they are awaiting forensic test results from evidence gathered at the crime scene. Results may be back next week.
