Edward Hospital, 801 S. Washington St., Naperville, will offer the following classes, programs and events. Classes are at Edward, unless noted otherwise.
Holiday sobriety: How to stay sober and get through the holidays without a relapse is the focus of Linden Oaks at Edward's chemical dependency education/support group from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today on the campus of Edward Hospital. Treating diabetes: The Edward Diabetes Center hosts "New Advances in Diabetes Treatment" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Education Center on the campus of Edward Hospital. First aid: This American Heart Association class Wednesday at the Plainfield Outpatient Center teaches participants to recognize and care for victims of sudden illness and injuries. Students practice skills related to bleeding, shock, poisoning and heart-related illness. Those who successfully complete the class receive a certification card valid for two years. The fee is $30. Holiday grief support: Edward's Spiritual Care Services offers "Grief Support for the Holidays" during November and December. The program will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and Dec. 12 and 19, and 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Dec. 13 and 20. Info: (630) 527-5056.
Heartsaver: An American Heart Association class designed for the non-health care person who requires certification for their workplace meets Nov. 24. The class covers choking, rescue breathing and one-person rescuer CPR for adults, children and infants. The course also includes training and practice on the use of an automated external defibrillator. Participants who successfully complete the skills and written tests will be awarded a Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid certification card valid for two years. The fee is $75. Info: (630) 527-6363.
Child safety: Parents-to-be, new parents and grandparents learn how to install a car safety seat, how to baby-proof their homes and when to call for emergency assistance or give simple first aid from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 29. The cost is $10 per couple. Info: (630) 527-6363.
CPR class: This American Heart Association class Dec. 13 covers choking, rescue breathing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation for infants, children and adults. Participants will be taught how to determine the type of assistance someone might need and the most effective way of assisting. This is not a certification course. Loss support: SHARE, a support group for couples who have experienced an ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death, and Sharing Hope, a support group for couples who have experienced such a loss and are pregnant or considering pregnancy, meet Dec. 18 at Edward Education Center.
