Roselle police searching for armed robber

Roselle police are searching for a man who attempted to rob a convenience store this weekend.

A clerk at the Park-N-Shop, 624 W. Lake St., reported that a man walked into the store about 10:50 a.m. Saturday and put three items on the counter as if he were about to buy them.

When the clerk started ringing up the items, the man pulled out a handgun from under his jacket and told the clerk, "Give me everything," according to police.

The clerk attempted to reach for the panic button, but the suspect noticed and struck the clerk's hand with the gun, police said. The suspect then appeared to panic and fled.

"He didn't escape with anything," Deputy Chief Roman Tarchala said. "But he still committed the act."

The clerk, who then called police, wasn't seriously injured.

A witness saw the attempted robber park his vehicle before the incident. He fled in a black two-door vehicle with no front license plate, heading west on Lake Street, police said.

The suspect is described as being between 35 to 40 years old, standing 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a thin build and beard. He last was seen wearing a black jacket and black jeans.
