BG/Wheeling unbeaten in Metro NW
Buffalo Grove/Wheeling remains undefeated and at the top of the Metro Northwest Conference. BG/Wheeling is currently 6-0-2.
BG/Wheeling's latest conference win came last Sunday after Huntley fell 5-0.
"We played great," said Bison coach Bob Wagner. "The kids played really hard. We had 2 power-play goals and 2 short-handed goals.
"I thought they played a nice, disciplined game. It was an important conference win."
Jeffrey Tlusty led BG with 2 goals while Anthony Ricciardi logged 3 assists. Kyriakos Iatropoulos, Cody Barra and Brandon Kirchens also scored.
Brett Carey got the shutout by denying all 17 shots.
BG/Wheeling tied St. Charles East 3-3 in a Metro Invitational Tournament game on Wednesday. The Bison are now 7-1-5 overall.
"We tried to play the younger guys more and they kids played well," Wagner said.
Kevin Pabst and Kirchens scored with Ricciardi tying things up at 3-3 with 1:40 remaining. Lucas Lambert had 33 saves in goal.
The Bison will play Fremd on Wednesday in a rematch of an earlier tie. The game begins at 9:10 at Hoffman Estates Park District's Ice Rink.
"We're looking ahead to Fremd," said Wagner. "That game will basically be for first place in the Metro Northwest. The boys are excited. It will be one of the tougher teams we play."
• Barrington added two more wins this week to improve to 8-1-1 and lead the Metro Central Conference.
The Broncos skated past Guerin/Nazareth 5-0 led by Geno Melone's 3 goals.
William Schmitz and David Hirsh also scored while William Murphy had 2 assists.
The Broncos outshot Guerin/Nazareth 51-16 with keeper Mitchell Savioli keeping the Barrington net clean.
Melone scored 2 again in the Broncos 6-1 win over Crystal Lake South. That's 12 goals this season so far for Melone.
Barrington's offense also produced goals from Dan Condin, Matt Spica, Geoffrey Hamilton and Joshua Eastham. Spica also added 2 assists.
Goalie Scott Karas made 28 saves against the Gators. Karas is Metro Central's second-best goalie with 95 saves this season.
