Parts of Seegers closed this week
The Des Plaines Engineering Department has received notification that Seegers Road, between Rand Road and Northwest Highway, will be closed because of reconstruction work on the Canadian National Railroad crossing from today through Friday afternoon.
Motorists are advised to follow signage and use Golf Road as a detour.
Meet Kotowski staff member Tuesday
Janie Morrison from state Sen. Dan Kotowski's office will be at the Des Plaines Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Morrison will meet with residents individually to answer questions regarding senior services, immigration, passport issues, Social Security, veterans' benefits and more. No appointment is necessary. Mitten Tree Project benefits needy
The Des Plaines Special Events Commission and the Health & Human Services Division of the city of Des Plaines will be coordinating the "Mitten Tree Project" during the upcoming holiday season. The purpose of the Mitten Tree Project is to collect new hats, gloves, mittens and scarves for needy individuals in the community.
Donations will be collected at Des Plaines City Hall Health & Human Services Division, 1420 Miner St.; Des Plaines Park District Prairie Lakes Facility, 515 E. Dempster St.; Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St.; Midwest Bank, 749 Lee St., the Des Plaines Frisbie Senior Center, 52 Northwest Hwy. and the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, 310 N. River Road.
Volunteers sought to deliver gifts
The Center of Concern, a local not-for-profit serving the elderly and other adults in need requests volunteers during the holiday season to deliver gifts to The Center's homebound clients. Volunteers are needed year-round to visit the frail elderly; take Center clients to medical appointments or shopping; make telephone calls to check on the well-being of homebound Center clients; work in The Center's office on mailings and computer data entry; and help with occasional odd jobs.
The Center also needs volunteers to help plan its annual dinner auction fund-raiser. This event usually includes both silent and live auctions as well as dinner and dancing. For details, call (847) 823-0453.
