Chief's service merits a salute

Sept. 30 represented the end of an era for the village of Fox River Grove. Chief Robert "Bob" Polston retired from the police department. Chief Polston has been patrolling the streets of Fox River Grove for the past 32 years, first as a patrolman and then as its longstanding police chief.

Bob was the epitome of a small-town police chief, by always making one feel welcome and was always willing to lend his ear to problems as they arose. Bob, even as the chief, would patrol the streets with his fellow patrolmen, and was a fixture at community events, including directing traffic, and all in all, was in constant contact with members of the community.

I am proud to say that as a resident of the village of Fox River Grove for 20 years that Bob had such an important role in developing Fox River Grove into the great and close-knit community that it is. I just wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you, and wish Bob the best of luck in all of his future endeavors.

Bob, you are, and always will be, a significant part of the history of the village of Fox River Grove.
