Briefs: Dist. 103 receives award
Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 recently was recognized for outstanding academic achievement with the 2007 SchoolSearch Bright A+ Award. District 103 is one of nine elementary districts in Lake County to receive the award. Report card data from the 2006 Illinois Standards Achievement Test results is used to determine a qualifying school district.
New Nicasa rep
Bill Hetland has been named Nicasa's representative in DUI courtrooms at the 19th Judicial Circuit Court. Hetland, who joined Nicasa in July 1990 after 21 years as a newspaper editor, succeeds veteran court liaison George O'Connor, who recently retired. Hetland is the agency's court services, communications and gambling outreach coordinator. Hetland works out of the agency's Waukegan facility at 1113 Greenwood Ave. He can be reached at (847) 244-4434.
Free eye screening
The Wauconda Lions Club will sponsor a free diabetic retinopathy/macular degeneration eye screening from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday at Wauconda Grade School, 225 Osage St. Detecting a retinal disease early has been shown to lead to a better outcome for the patient. The free screening is open to anyone who has diabetes or is 55 years or older. The screening involves having a picture taken of your eye to check for problems. Clothing drive set at library
The Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire will host a business clothing drive Nov. 5-18. People can drop off clothes in excellent condition at the library, 300 Olde Half Day Road. Items will be given to area emergency shelters and related services. Suits, sport coats, collared shirts, dress pants, ties, skirts and dresses are sought.
