Top 10 reasons to visit Octoberfest this weekend in Antioch

There are lots of good reasons to visit Antioch Sunday during the village's fourth annual OctoberFest.

From noon to 7 p.m. at the bandshell downtown, the village will welcome the fall season and the following are 10 reasons not to miss it.

1.Rolling fruit: Or is it a vegetable? Doesn't matter. At 3 p.m. children and adults can take out any repressed aggression by pushing their pumpkins down a hill for a prize.

2.German food: Whether sauerkraut or wienerschnitzel pleases your palate, a wide array of German-inspired food will be served.

3.Beer: The only thing that makes a bratwurst taste better is chasing it down with a cold Hefeweizen. The first keg is tapped at noon.

4.Focused wieners: Will Baby take first place for the fourth straight year or will a new a dog dominate the Senior Sausages category? Find out at 2 p.m. during the highly-anticipated Wiener (Dachshund) Race.

5.Dueling bartenders: Teams from Limerick Lounge and Sequoit Creek Lodge will again compete in a Beer Stein Race. Last year the Lodge won the competition, but the word on the street is the Limerick has been holding some pretty intense practice sessions.

6.Occupied children: Moonwalks, Bubba the Bus, Kids Klub Coloring Contest, Hayrides and a Haystack Hunt are just some of the planned children's events.

7.Flying sausages: The Antioch Fire Department is sponsoring a brat toss at 1:15 p.m.

8.Bragging rights: Fox Lake is holding its Octoberfest from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at Fox Lake Lakefront Park. Show your community allegiance.

9.Toe-tapping tunes: The Alpiners put on their Lederhosen at 4 p.m. to perform authentic Bavarian slap-dance and other folk dances.

10.It's free! No further explanation necessary.
