Lake Forest's Koschmann sets state record
This may have been Hailey Koschmann's final appearance in the Class AA girls golf state meet, but she's definitely leaving her mark.
The Lake Forest senior shot a 69 in the second round to post a two-day total of 135, which is 9 under par. Her effort not only breaks the girls state record by 8 strokes but is the lowest state final two-day total ever -- girls or boys.
Koschmann wasn't the only one to find her way around Hickory Ridge Public Golf Center in Carbondale.
Alex Hein of Libertyville shot an 80 on Saturday to finish with a 154 and tied for 20th.
Lakes sophomore Abbie Horan shaved 11 strokes from day run with a 77 in round two and a 165 total in her first time at state.
Normal University shot a 607 to repeat as state champions. Stevenson finished in ninth with a 674.
Sophomore Jennifer Gorman led the Patriots with 167 while teammate Angelina Kim was just off her pace with a 168. Alex Kessler (172) Kailin Garske (174) and Erin Moreau (176) show some consistency. Whitney Paul shot an 89 in round two.
Boys golf
