Briefs: Motorola invests in California firm

SCHAUMBURG -- Motorola Inc.'s Motorola Ventures, its venture capital arm, Tuesday announced it made an equity investment in Arcadia, Calif.-based Siimpel Corp., a developer and manufacturer of silicon microelectromechanical system-based solutions for mobile imaging applications. Siimpel's technology helps cell phones provide auto-focus, shutter and zoom with a low-cost system. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.

UOP to help build Singapore factory

DES PLAINES -- UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, said Tuesday that Jurong Aromatics Corp. PTE Ltd. has selected UOP to supply technology, engineering services and equipment for a new aromatics plant in Jurong Island, Singapore. Engineering design is under way and commissioning of the complex is scheduled for 2011. When completed, this plant will be one of the largest privately owned petrochemical facilities in Singapore.
