Briefs: Upgrade for District 54

Moody's Investors Service has upgraded the credit rating of Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 for the fourth time in nine years, making it one of only five districts in Illinois and 19 in the nation to receive the highest AAA rating. Moody's analysts were provided with detailed financial information about the district and conducted an interview with Mohsin Dada, assistant superintendent for business services. "During the interview we discussed at length things that are not on the balance sheet such as board policies and practices related to financial management," Dada said. "Moody's was very impressed with our school board's commitment to financial stability."

Police seek bank robber

Des Plaines police are looking for the man who robbed the Plaza Bank, 379 S. River Road, at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday. Police said the man ordered a female teller to fill a bag with "hundreds and fifties." The robber left with about $2,310, reports said. He drove away in a black car, possibly a Toyota Camry, heading south on Rand Road, police said. He was described as 5-foot-8 with a medium build. He was wearing blue latex gloves, a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans, white shoes, a light-colored baseball hat and sunglasses, police said.

Housing for mentally ill

A local branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will host a bipartisan forum on housing and services for the mentally ill at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Indian Trails Public Library, 355 Schoenbeck Road in Wheeling. The task force consists of family members and residents who care for a person with a serious persistent mental illness living in Northwest suburban Cook County. The public is invited.

Job fair for 50 and older

Schaumburg, Palatine and Wheeling townships will host their last Senior Job Club of the year for job-seekers 50 and older at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 at Schaumburg Township hall, 1 Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates. Celebrating Indian art

Tribal Expressions American Indiana Art Gallery is celebrating 15 years in Arlington Heights from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight with a gallery open house and a cake and champagne collectors' party.
