Barrington 28, Conant 6

On Monday, Barrington junior Sam Ojuri was named the team's feature running back. On Friday, Ojuri showed why.

On the first play from scrimmage, Ojuri broke free for a 60-yard touchdown to lead the Broncos to a 28-6 Mid-Suburban West win over visiting Conant.

"I was told this whole week to cut back and follow my blocks. That's what happened on the first play of the game," Ojuri said after rushing for a career-high 170 yards and 3 touchdowns. "This is the last game ever in this stadium (Tom Frederick Field will be replaced after this year) and there were a lot of greats here.

"We had a responsibility and we had to take care of it. This should be a memory."

Barrington (4-4, 1-3 West) had lost three straight coming into Friday and coach Joe Sanchez knew something had to be done. With the team desperately needing wins, Sanchez decided to put the ball in the hands of his playmaker.

"We made the decision to move (Ojuri) and obviously he made our decision look very good tonight," Sanchez said. "We just know when the ball is in his hands, he makes a lot of good things happen."

Cody Seeger had 166 total yards and a touchdown while Michael Guido added 78 rushing yards for the Broncos, who need one more win to have a shot at a sixth straight playoff berth.

"(We are) playing for the playoffs," Sanchez said. "Now we get a chance next week to play for something and that's what matters."

A stifling Barrington defense made it tough for Conant (2-6, 1-3) to sustain many drives. The Cougars did have a chance to cut into Barrington's 14-0 lead late in the second quarter.

However, a false start on a third down at the Broncos' 5 killed the drive and ended with a missed field goal.

"We come out and work so hard at practice," Conant running back Kendall Lane said after rushing for 67 yards. "Then we come to the games and little things take us out. It's frustrating, it really is."

Tom Houle rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown, while Scott Zari grinded out 65 yards on 20 carries for the Cougars.
