Enforcer Koci out at least two more weeks

Blackhawks enforcer David Koci said Monday he likely won't play again for at least two weeks because of the broken nose and cut near his eye he suffered in a fight with Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara on Thursday.

Koci said the cut needs to heal before he can play -- and fight -- again.

"For the job I do, I have to have my face 100 percent," Koci said.

It was his helmet that caused the bloody cut and not a Chara punch, according to Koci, whose face still was tender from a fierce fight with Toronto's Wade Belak five days earlier.

Chara doesn't fight often, but when he does, the 6-foot-9, 251-pound veteran is as tough as they come.

"He's very strong and he has such a long reach," Koci said. "He's one of the strongest guys in the league."

Fine tuning: The Hawks made official Monday what was reported previously by the Daily Herald and elsewhere: Their first home telecast on Comcast SportsNet will be the Sunday, Nov. 11 game against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Hawks plan to televise seven or eight home games the rest of this season but won't release the complete schedule until it's finalized next week.

"We'd like to do them all, but (Comcast) is committed to the Bulls and some other things on a lot of those dates," said Hawks general manager Dale Tallon.

Team chairman Rocky Wirtz said in a statement that televising home games is being done for the fans.

"It's time to share the energy and excitement of the Blackhawks with all of our fans," Wirtz said. "We are entering a new era, and putting home games back on TV is the first step to supporting our great players and fans."

It takes more than 2: One too many questions about rookies Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews got Denis Savard borderline annoyed Monday.

"This is a team, it's just not two players," Savard said. "Those guys that we brought in have got to carry the torch, too. It's just not two guys.

"Obviously they've played well, and we're glad to see that and they're going to continue to play well, but it's not a two-man affair here. It's a team game."

Good news: Injured winger Martin Havlat could be back practicing with the Hawks by the end of this week or early next week.

While Denis Savard said he thought Havlat could be back in the lineup in two weeks, the winger said he still wasn't sure when that would be.

"Let's go day by day and we'll see how it feels," said Havlat, who has been out since hurting his right shoulder in the Oct. 4 season opener. "Hopefully I'll be practicing soon."

Havlat said the shoulder feels better and that his range of motion was returning.
