Schaumburg police investigate mugging

The investigation into the mugging of woman while she was walking in Schaumburg continued Thursday.

According to police reports, the victim was walking east on Weathersfield Way about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday when she saw man approaching from the opposite direction.

When the two reached the intersection at Hazel Drive, the man demanded her purse, the victim told police.

The woman initially refused. But when the man told her he had a gun and again demanded the purse, she handed it over, police said.

The man then fled on foot. The woman was not injured.

Police said canine units were called to the scene but lost track of the robber's scent.

The purse and its contents, police said, were valued at $300.

The robber was described as being in his late 20s to early 30s, with a thin build and short, dark hair. Police said he was wearing a dark knit hat with a bill, a waist-length black leather coat and dark-colored pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Schaumburg police at (847) 882-3534.
