Lakes wraps up NSC Prairie

Lakes' boys soccer team completed a perfect run through the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division, defeating cross-town rival Antioch 5-0 Thursday, as Josh Beckman scored twice.

Lakes (11-7, 6-0) will host NSC Lake-champ Lake Zurich in the conference championship game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Andrew Stein and Steven Korosis both had a goal and an assist for Lakes, which led only 1-0 at halftime. Brian Mooney also scored.

Matt Laine earned the shutout in goal.

Libertyville 4, N. Chicago 0: The Wildcats received goals from Nathan Moderwell, Greg Vente, Chase Guarnaccio and Mitchel Dure. Ben Julia had 2 assists for Libertyville (9-5) in the North Suburban Conference crossover.

Grayslake N. 3, Johnsburg 1: Julio Zamora scored twice for the Knights in the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division match.

Josh Solberg-Aldaco also scored. Marc Nethercote, Brian Hook and Ryan Reed all had assists for Grayslake North (12-6, 6-3).

Freshman John Sanko scored for Johnsburg.

Girls volleyball

Vernon Hills d. Round Lake: A little bit of a layoff didn't hurt Vernon Hills' girls volleyball team.

The Cougars, playing for the first time since the Lake Forest tournament last Saturday, defeated Round Lake 25-11, 25-19 in North Suburban Prairie Division action.

Sarah Milligan had 8 kills for Vernon Hills (16-9-1, 5-1), while Brianna Skeens contributed 4 kills and 3 aces. Caitlin McKenna also slammed 4 kills, and Kelsey Guglielmi lofted 18 assists.

"The girls knew they needed to set the tone early and they did," Cougars coach Abbie Gutzmer said. "We have finally put together a complete game and are really looking forward to our few remaining matches of the regular season."

Round Lake received 4 kills and 5 blocks from Labrenthia Murdock. Brittany Kucia was 40-of-40 setting with 7 assists.

Johnsburg d. Grayslake C.: The Skyhawks won the Fox Valley Fox Division match 25-12, 25-11.

Tory Dohm had 5 kills for the Rams (10-13, 1-4), and Anna Dlesk added three.

"We had a tough time passing," Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. "We never got going. We will bounce back next week."

Huntley d. Grayslake North: The Knights lost the Fox Valley Fox Division match 25-14, 25-11, despite 3 kills apiece from Michelle Quigley and Elizabeth Phillips. Alex Lowry had 4 blocks and 2 kills for Grayslake North (11-15, 1-5). Kaitlyn Klausner dished out 7 assists.
