5K charity run/walk to help the homeless

The second annual Run for Cover fun run/walk is set for Saturday at Busse Woods near the intersection of Higgins and Arlington Heights Roads, Elk Grove Village.
The event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with a registration session/packet pickup, followed by a pre-race welcome and warm-up at 8:30 a.m. The fun run/walk will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and conclude no later than 11 a.m. The 5-kilometer race -- which equates to 3.11 miles -- will convene in groves 5 through 16.
Limited parking is available on site. Runners will be allowed to start first (based on level of ability), followed by walkers. A kids 100-yard dash is also planned. The event will be emceed by Paul Konrad, weather forecaster for WGN TV's Morning News.
Restroom facilities will be provided, and trained staff will be on-call in case of emergency. Complimentary food and refreshments will be served, and water will be available during the race.
Proceeds from the event, presented by the North Central Chapter of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, will go to HomeAid Chicago in its mission to benefit the transitionally homeless.
The first 250 registrants will receive a free Run for Cover T-shirt and goody bag. Awards will also be given to the top male and female finishers in eight different age categories.
Run for Cover participants are required to register. Online registration is $25 ($10 for kids 12 and younger); faxed or mailed registration is $30; or on-site registration on Saturday is $35 (group registration discounts are also available). Race packets -- which will contain race numbers, shirts and other information -- will be distributed the day of the race, or they can be picked up early at the association's office, 1841 W. Army Trail Road, Addison from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
