Briefs: Storm pickup times set

The city of Elgin has set up a special collection for tree limbs and branches damaged during Tuesday afternoon's storm. Elgin public works employees and contract crews will collect storm debris through Oct. 5 in a designated collection area bounded by Wing Street to the north, McLean Boulevard to the west, Route 20 to the south and Route 31 to the east. Branches and limbs do not need to be broken down or bundled for the special collection. If you have storm-related branches to dispose of and your home is not located in the collection area, please contact the public works department at (847) 697-3160. Humpfer trial Dec. 17

Carpentersville Trustee Paul Humpfer will face a jury trial Dec. 17 on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge accusing him of hitting his wife with a baseball bat in May. Humpfer's attorney Van Richards said Wednesday that Humpfer intends to plead not guilty. The battery charge is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail.

Meet new police chief

Campton Hills residents can meet the village's first police chief during a special event today at 6:30 p.m. in the Campton Township Community Center, 5N082 Old LaFox Road. Chief Greg Anderson, who takes over police coverage of the village Nov. 1, will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the police department's future. Call (630) 584-0330.

Student blood drive today

South Elgin High School students will hold a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the school, 760 E. Main St. You must be 16 years or older to give blood. Donors who are 16 need a parent's signature. Call (847) 289-3760, ext. 3505.
