The village of Wheeling will dedicate its newest pocket park at the southeast corner of Dundee and Milwaukee roads with a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. today. Refreshments will be served. The park features three 30-foot flag poles with the American flag, the state flag and the Village of Wheeling flag. The park has about 1,000 square feet of brick pavers with eight natural stone outcropping benches. It also has a 12-foot-high stone planter containing annuals and perennials. It has a 6-foot-high bench made from steel and decorative stone with a matching trash receptacle. The flagpoles are lit at night and there are lights along the path leading to the park from the parking lot.
WGN comes to Barrington
WGN radio is coming to Barrington. Friday, the radio station will conduct a live remote of "Home Town Voices" with John Williams from 1 to 4 p.m. at Chessie's Restaurant at the Ice House Mall, 200 Applebee St. Home Town voices was launched in 2005 as a way to broadcast from unique spots in communities throughout the area like diners and historic sites. Job retreat aims to refresh
A two-day job retreat begins at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bellarmine Hall in Barrington Hills. Titled "Finding Work Without Losing Heart," the retreat will give job-seekers a chance to put their search on hold to explore the transition process and personal development. Prairie Center fundraiser
Celebration 2007, a benefit for Schaumburg's Prairie Center for the Arts, will be held at the center 7 to 10:30 p.m. Sept. 22. The event will include food from 10 prominent local restaurants, live music and entertainment, caricature artists and a silent auction. Admission is $50 in advance or $55 at the door. Theater fundraiser back on
Postponed due to the recent power outages and flooding, the Des Plaines Theater Preservation Society will present a Flash Gordon Marathon, 7 p.m. Saturday at the Stage One Theater, 620 Lee St. All 12 chapters of the 1940 movie serial starring Buster Crabbe as "Flash Gordon" will be shown in one night. Proceeds will go to purchase, restore and renovate the Des Plaines Theatre. The not-for-profit Des Plaines Theater Preservation Society was formed in 2003 to protect the building.
