No one hurt after car catches fire in Kaneland High lot
No one was injured when a car caught fire in the Kaneland High School parking lot Wednesday, but a class was moved outside because of a smoke smell.
Two former students were dropping off a student at about 7:10 a.m. when they got out to check a problem at the back of the car and it caught fire, Principal Tony Valente said.
They ran inside, and staff members went outside with fire extinguishers and barricaded the area. There weren't a lot of students arriving at school yet, but those who did were redirected, Valente said. Several cars nearby were moved as well.
Kaneville and Big Rock Fire Departments responded and put out the fire. The car was towed from the high school's back lot.
Several students in the first block choir class - which was the direction the wind was blowing - smelled smoke, so that class went outside, Valente said.
The two people from the car were evaluated by paramedics but didn't need to go to the hospital, he said.
