History is the star at Tavern Day
Glen Ellyn Historical Society's Tavern Day festival is back after a two-year break, this time bigger and more creative than ever.
This year's biggest attraction, the Grand and Mystical Kickapoo Medicine Show, is sold out. But there are plenty of other activities for everyone to enjoy.
Tavern Day activities from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday will include a pig roast, craft demonstrations, games, stilt making and walking, live animals, juggling lessons, storytellers and an apple festival bake sale.
Historical society Executive Director Jan Langford said, for about five years, Tavern Days was the group's annual event. After mixing things up for the past two years with hosting other events, she said with much brainstorming and the help of 40 volunteers, a bigger and better Tavern Day festival is expected to liven up Stacy's Corner this weekend.
"I think it's really neat to take an event that we've been comfortable with and just add to it," she said. "It's just wonderful when you can spread your reach a little farther and get a whole new group of people involved."
At the root of every historical society event is a little food for thought.
"We seek to educate the public about history, as well as entertain," Langford said. "We also thought it would be a perfect time to really showcase the whole history park area."
