Who wants Ricky Williams?
Ricky Williams is planning another comeback.
The suspended running back is eligible to seek reinstatement by the NFL after Oct. 1 and will do so, his attorney said Friday.
In recent years, Williams has made more headlines than first downs, playing in only 12 NFL games since the start of the 2004 season. His current suspension began in April 2006 after he violated the league's drug policy for the fourth time, and a positive test for marijuana this April delayed his return.
Williams remains under contract with Miami, where he won the NFL rushing title in 2002, but first-year Dolphins coach Cam Cameron has given no indication he wants Williams.
Discussing Williams' most recent relapse in May, Cameron said it's difficult to salvage the careers of troubled players.
"The easiest predictor of future behavior is previous behavior," the coach said.
Pennington improving: Chad Pennington's injured right ankle appeared to be a lot better Friday as he dropped back and threw light passes while the Jets prepared for their game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. He was listed as questionable on the injury report.
Despite published reports that the Jets had already decided on starting backup Kellen Clemens, coach Eric Mangini insisted that hadn't been determined.
"I'll make a decision once all the information's in," Mangini said before Friday's practice. "Chad's moving along in his rehab. Each day, we evaluate it, so we'll look at it today and see his progress."
Pennington injured the ankle when he was sacked by Jarvis Green during the third quarter of the Jets' 38-14 loss to the New England Patriots. He missed one play, but came back on New York's next series and led the Jets to a touchdown before pulling himself out of the game late in the fourth quarter.
Culpepper to start: Daunte Culpepper is expected to start at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday against Denver after Josh McCown left practice early Friday with a sore foot.
McCown sprained his right foot in the first half of the season opener against Detroit last Sunday and missed practice Wednesday because of the injury. He was able to practice Thursday, but was sore when he arrived at the team's facility Friday and could not finish practice. McCown is listed as doubtful.
Culpepper, who signed with the team July 31, started four games for Miami last season before being sidelined with a knee injury. Culpepper is a former Pro Bowler, throwing 39 TD passes in 2004 when he was in Minnesota.
Taylor out, Peterson in?: Minnesota Vikings running back Chester Taylor was listed Friday as questionable for Sunday's game at Detroit, due to a bruised hip that limited his participation in practice all week.
Taylor was hurt in the first quarter of the season opener against Atlanta, and rookie Adrian Peterson took over. Coach Brad Childress said the decision on Taylor's status would not be made until shortly before kickoff against the Lions after coaches and trainers watch him warming up on the field before the game.
