Woman's club celebrates 25 years

The Glendale Heights Junior Woman's Club celebrated a silver anniversary this summer.

Members proudly celebrated the group's 25th anniversary with State Rep. Franco Coladipietro congratulating the club on reaching a milestone.

The group formed in March 1982, consisting of 12 women. Now, a quarter-century later, the club's got 45 members and has raised more than $200,000.

Over the years, the group has given money to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital Foundation, annual scholarships to Glendale Heights residents, Camp TLC, Bridge Communities, American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Operation Smile.

In 2005, the Susan Dees Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of a member who died from breast cancer. Since then, a $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a local woman every year.

The women meet the first Wednesday of each month, September through June, at Glendale Lakes Golf Course's clubhouse, 1550 President St.
