1,905 -- that's a lot of speeders
The Arlington Heights Police Department passed out 1,905 speeding tickets between March 10 and Sept. 9 at four different intersections. Police also issued 39 citations for other code violations during that time.
The special enforcement efforts were conducted at four locations: Algonquin and Arlington Heights roads; Palatine and Rand roads; Palatine and Arlington Heights roads and Northwest Highway and Euclid Avenue.
Piano bar to open soon: The owner of Big Shots Piano Lounge & Restaurant will open in downtown Arlington Heights around mid-October.
After a few private parties, Christopher Wozniczka is looking at a Oct. 12 date to open to the public.
Big Shots will have between 80 and 100 seats in the lower level spot at the southwest corner of Campbell Street and Vail Avenue. Big Shots will be open until 1 a.m. on weekdays and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The menu choices will include variety of Spanish, Italian, French and Mediterranean dishes.
The restaurant's name comes from the Billy Joel song "Big Shot." The place will also feature a full menu and a piano player who takes song requests.
Big Shots will open in the former Boiler Room location.
The Boiler Room closed its doors in 2006. The club -- which spent years reinventing itself -- has remained open for private parties and gatherings since that time.
Big Shots customers will park on the street or in the Vail parking garage, according to reports.
Arlington Lakes golf results: John Gollwitzer of Chicago beat Jonathan Dean of Mount Prospect to win this year's Arlington Amateur Golf Championship, held at Arlington Lakes Golf Club on Sept. 15-16.
Five-time champion and Arlington Heights resident Tom Krezawski finished third with a score 147. In total, 91 golfers competed for the title of top amateur during the 36-hole contest. It was the 22nd year of the Arlington Golf championship. The amateur competition attracts players from all over northern Illinois and offered over $3,000 in cash prizes.
Other winners included; Eric Simms of Forest Park in the A flight, Long Ha of Des Plaines in the B Flight, H. Sato of Arlington Heights was the C Flight champion and David Johnson of Arlington Heights captured the D flight crown.
