Doctor earns kudos as leader
•Dr. Roger A. Nosal of Arlington Heights was honored by St. Joseph Hospital, Chicago, for his outstanding ability as a medical staff leader, with the creation of a Leadership Award bearing his name.
The award will be given annually in June to an outstanding physician resident who demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities.
Nosal, who retired in February, served St. Joseph Hospital for 41 years in many capacities. He was the first physician layman appointed to the hospital's board of directors; served as chairman of the clinical medical ethics committee for 30 years; supervisor for physician clinical ethics fellows from the University of Chicago, 1986-2001; chairman of family medicine for 28 years and its residency director for 26 years; and as medical director for academic affairs from 2000-2007.
He holds appointments as associate professor of clinical family medicine and a secondary appointment as associate professor in clinical medicine at Northwestern University. He also has a faculty appointment at the University of Chicago in clinical medical ethics.
•Dr. Darlene B. Tad-y, daughter of Raymundo and Darlene Bernardo Tad-y of Wheeling, will be in Chicago Oct. 24, to make a presentation of research done on bensocaine-induced methemoglobinemia in bronchoscopy at the CHEST 2007 convention at McCormick Place.
CHEST 2007 offers clinical updates in pulmonology, critical care, cardiothoracic surgery, sleep medicine and related areas.
Tad-y, a 1996 Wheeling High School graduate, attended Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo., on full scholarship, and graduated cum laude in 2000, with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and communication. She is also a 2005 graduate of St. George's University School of Medicine and is in her last year of residency in internal medicine at the Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
•Mount Prospect resident Allan Kaufman has joined the American Red Cross as senior associate of emergency planning programs. As part of the national team, Kaufman will be based at the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago.
•Arlington Heights residents Anita Janczak, field office supervisor, Department of Employment Security, and Peggy St. Leger, director of diagnostic and interventional cardiology services, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, were honored by the National Able Network with a Claude D. Pepper Distinguished Service Award at the 26th annual Outstanding Worker Awards luncheon held at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.
The Distinguished Service Award pays tribute to Chicago's best employees age 50 and over, who have demonstrated extraordinary service to an organization.
