West Nile in Cook Co. pests

Mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus have been trapped in Schiller Park, prompting other Northwest suburbs like Schaumburg to warn their residents against infection as a precautionary measure. The Cook County Department of Public Health urges residents to keep standing water off their properties; use mosquito repellant containing DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus primarily on clothing; and to limit time outdoors from dusk to dawn when mosquito activity is heaviest. Residents are also advised to keep the screens on their homes intact and to keep gutters cleared of debris.
