Gala raises $420,000 for hospice
Hospice of Northeastern Illinois combined formal elegance with the natural beauty of the outdoors at this year's Seasons of Life gala June 16 and raised more than $420,000 for the organization's programs.
More than 350 people gathered outdoors at a wooded park-like setting in Barrington owned by Pepper Construction for a gourmet dinner and dancing to the sounds of the Ovation Orchestra.
Just after dinner, hospice board member Kathy Reno spoke about the organization's goal to increase its in-patient services for those who cannot be cared for at home.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the live auction that included vacation packages to Cabo San Lucas and Costa Rica.
Also auctioned off was an Arlington Adventure with a tour of Hill 'n Dale Farm and a day at the races at Arlington Park.
The night's big splash was the cute goldendoodle puppy that was scooped up in the auction by the Nemec family of Barrington.
"Those big eyes just suck you right in," Julie Nemec said. "How can you not want him in your family?"
