Elburn leaders happy with new village Web site

It has been a goal for a long time, but now Elburn finally has a new Web site.

Launched in July, the site, at www.elburn.il.us, is broken down into four areas -- local government, village operations divided by department, living in Elburn, and business in Elburn.

"We went from a very stagnant Web page to something we can easily update and keep the public informed," said Village Administrator David Morrison.

In addition, site visitors may now access an up-to-date calendar listing village festivals and events, news and announcements including press releases, and agendas and minutes for official village meetings.

Contractors may also check the site for upcoming projects within the village, submit bids and check on their status.

"We put a lot more content up there that I thought we ever would," Morrison said.

Residents may also find contact information for other village services such as the Town and Country Library, the Elburn/Countryside Community Center, and services provided to the village through external sources including village planning and engineering.

Of course, the new Web site is still host to Village President James Willey's popular blog.

The site was designed using software meant specifically for municipalities. Three staff members have been trained to update the site on a regular basis.

Included on the site's design is Elburn's new unofficial slogan, "Better, not just Bigger."

Although word of the new Web site has not spread to all of Elburn, Morrison says that those who have seen it are pleased with its new design and format.

"We get compliments every day, which is great," he said. "We're very happy with it and hope people will find it useful."
