MCC seminars will help you get started returning to college
Back to school isn't just for kids. It's time to get that college degree you've always dreamed about.
Adults who are thinking of earning a degree to boost their career skills or change careers are invited to attend a "Getting Started" seminar at McHenry County College.
The next "Getting Started" seminar will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 18. Two more morning sessions will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 and Nov. 13.
Evening sessions of the "Getting Started" seminar will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 2, Oct. 30 and Nov. 27.
The seminar gives returning adults a chance to meet other students like themselves, learn about degree and certificate requirements, start the financial aid process and tour the MCC campus. MCC also offers free tutoring and academic advising.
Helen Jost, adult recruitment coordinator at McHenry County College, specializes in helping older adults -- those who have been out of high school for several years or more -- get started at MCC. According to Jost, many adult students have jobs and families and worry about getting back into the swing of attending classes, studying and taking tests and being in a classroom with younger students. These worries can be put to rest by the first day of class, she said.
The "Getting Started" seminar is free. To reserve a seat, call (815) 455-8914 or e-mail hjost@mchenry.edu. Refreshments will be served.
