Don't drive to court if your license is suspended
If you're going to drive to court, better make sure you have a license.
The McHenry County Sheriff's Department gave a pair of unlicensed visitors an unwelcome going-away present Friday when they got to or left the courthouse in Woodstock.
As part of a sting conducted at the county courthouse, officials monitored a group of people who were arriving to and leaving the premises.
Sheriff's Sgt. Karen Groves said that the intent was to see if people arriving at or leaving court without a valid driver's license would drive away -- or get a ride. The department was keeping an eye on between 15 and 20 people she said.
"We arrested two people. One driving with a suspended license, and one for driving with no valid license," she said. "They'll have to return to court and will have a new date for current charges."
Groves, who was involved in such an operation for the first time, considers it a success.
"We were able to see that there were people that were being compliant and getting rides to the courthouse, which is good, but there were those couple that were arrested," she said.
