Addison police seek shopping center shooter

Addison police are still investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Green Meadows shopping center, at Lake Street and Kennedy Drive.

The victim, who witnesses say was in his early teens, suffered a gunshot to the abdomen around 3:50 p.m. Officer Cathy Hundley said he was transported to Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare in Elmhurst, but would not confirm his age or other details pending notification of his family.

Hundley also said Addison Police are not releasing any information on possible suspects while they are still investigating.

Several witnesses filled the parking lot as police shot photos of the crime scene. Phil Benedia, project foreman for Resicom construction group, who is setting up a Spirit Halloween store in Green Meadows, said he and his crew heard the shooting amid their construction work.

"Everyone heard gunshots and came outside to see what was happening," Benedia said.

Once outside they saw the victim, who they say was in his early teens, bleeding on the ground.

Police blocked off more than half of the shopping center's parking lot -- from Jewel east to just before Portillo's. Drivers whose cars were caught in the crime scene lined up in their vehicles to be approved for exit by a police officer before leaving the scene.
