Robbery suspect sought
Wheaton police are investigating two separate strong-arm robberies that may be related. During the first robbery in August, a woman had her purse forcibly taken on the 1300 block of East Roosevelt Road. Then on Dec. 13, a second woman was robbed of her purse on the 1300 block of East College Avenue. The women weren't injured. In both instances, the suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build and no facial hair. Police said the suspect may have been driving a black four-door vehicle with orange-colored license plates, which may be Illinois temporary plates. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Wheaton police Det. Cmdr. Joseph Eversole at (630) 260-2161.
Ornament drive a success
Roughly 1,500 hospitalized children are indeed getting a Christmas ornament and miniature tree this week, thanks to a plethora of last-minute donations. Elmhurst resident Lyzzi Elliott, who works at Lucky Strike Lanes in Lombard, said she reached her goal Sunday and had started delivering the special ornaments. The 2003 Stevenson High School graduate sought to collect the 1,500 decorations at Lucky Strike in Lombard and Chicago to benefit from an Oak Brook client's offer to donate miniature trees. Recipients include sick children at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village and St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, as well as hospitals in Chicago.
Bensenville Bucks
The village of Bensenville is initiating its Bensenville Bucks program. Each household, including apartments, has been sent eight $5 Bensenville Bucks for a total of $40 in discounts. For every $25 purchased a resident can use a $5 Bensenville Buck. They can be redeemed at any merchant with a Bensenville Bucks sign posted in their window from through April 1. Multiple Bensenville Bucks may be used for a single purchase provided the total purchased price is a multiple of the required $25 purchase. For details, call the Edge Ice Area and ask for Gary Thorsen at (630) 766-8888.
