Holiday display catches fire at Carson's Hawthorn store

The Carson Pirie Scott store at Westfield Hawthorn Shopping Center is closed Sunday after an overnight fire that started in a holiday display of trees and lights.

The Countryside Fire Protection District responded to an activated fire alarm at the shopping center at 4:01 a.m., according to department. Crews found smoke and activated sprinklers, which had contained the fire to the holiday display on the second floor.

The building was empty, and no one was injured, officials said Sunday.

The Carson Pirie Scott store will remain closed until it passes inspection by the Vernon Hills building department.

Other stores at the shopping center are open on Sunday.
