Furious at credit card interest rates
I am furious at how small businesses are continually ignored. Here is a letter I submitted to my state senator: Sen. Dick Durbin, I am contacting you as a small-business owner in the construction industry. At the end of this week, I will no longer have any income and see no prospects for income in the near future. Due to the extremely volatile economy, people are hesitating to spend any money on home improvement, which is my livelihood. I have credit cards that are at the maximum and I am being charged 29.9 percent interest from my credit card company, despite having a very good credit score (742). I contacted my credit card company asking for a reduction in the interest rate only to be told that they cannot help until I default on my payments. I specifically asked them if I understood correctly that a "good" customer is penalized, while a "bad" customer is given assistance. The response from the individual was "correct." This is absolutely ridiculous. After receiving billions of dollars in bailout money, the banks somehow have the ability to charge 29.9 percent interest on credit cards. This is borderline extortion. What I am asking for, Senator Durbin, is a bailout for my small business. I am asking that I receive enough money to pay off my high-interest-rate loans and allow the breathing room to survive this financial crisis. I look forward to hearing from you very soon
