Briefs: Bank robbery suspect nabbed
Lisle police say they arrested an Aurora man for robbing a bank late Monday morning. Keith D. Kelly, 36, was apprehended by police following a brief foot chase shortly after the robbery occurred, police said. Police said Kelly handed a teller at the Bank of America branch, 4704 Center Ave., a note demanding money and warning that he was carrying a gun at 11:57 a.m. Monday. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled. Police were notified and set up a perimeter. Officers noticed a man hiding behind a Dumpster in the 900 block of Lacey Avenue matching the description of the robber. The man bolted after spotting police. Kelly was apprehended a few blocks away after a short chase with a large amount of currency, police said. He was being held Monday at the Lisle Police Department where the case is under investigation by detectives and FBI agents.
Fire causes $15,000 damage
A garage fire that apparently was triggered by sparks landing on a mattress caused an estimated $15,000 damage early Monday morning on the 600 block of North LaLonde Avenue in Lombard. Firefighters received a 911 call about 12:45 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the unattached one-car garage. No injuries were reported. Authorities said the fire apparently started when the homeowner was using a grinder in the garage. Sparks from the grinder landed on a mattress that was being stored in the garage, officials said.
