Briefs: Crash victim identified

Naperville police have identified the driver in a fatal crash Monday night as Phillip A. Smith, 45, of Downers Grove. Police said Smith was driving south on Main Street about 5:21 p.m. and failed to stop at the intersection of Hillside Road. The vehicle continued over the curb and through a fence into the cemetery where it struck a tree, according to police. Smith was driving a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria cab owned by Alliance Taxi of Plainfield. There were no passengers at the time of the crash. The case remains under investigation.

Red light cameras coming

Naperville will begin operation of its red light cameras the week of Dec. 28 at the intersection of North Aurora Road and Route 59. Signs will be posted indicating the presence of cameras. Police will issue warning citations for a 30-day period, after which $100 fines will be issued to violators. Drivers will be able to contest citations through an administrative hearing system.

The Lakeside Singers will perform a holiday concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, in North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
