Red Cross looking to honor local heroes
Even in difficult economic times like these, one gift remains free to give - the gift of recognition for a job well done, a kindness shown, a simple act of valor.
In fact, it is in times like these that the heroism latent in very human soul is most likely to turn into action. People find ways to help each other out.
The Fox River chapter of American Red Cross wants to hear about these people and reward them with the recognition they deserve at the seventh annual American Red Cross Hometown Heroes Awards Breakfast scheduled for Friday, March 13, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Eagle Brook Country Club in Geneva. The emcee this year will be Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez, a former Hometown Hero himself.
If you know of a local hero in any of the following categories, consider nominating him or her today as: Adult Good Samaritan Hero; Medical Hero; Community Safety Hero; Youth Good Samaritan Hero; Military Hero; and Environmental Hero
Nomination forms are available by calling the Fox River Chapter of the American Red Cross at (630) 443-8844 or visiting the chapter offices at 121 N. Second St. (Route 31) in St. Charles. Completed forms should be submitted to the chapter offices no later than Saturday, Jan. 3. Additional information about The Heroes Breakfast, including an online registration form, can be found on the web site at www.redcross.org/il/foxriver. The Fox River Chapter serves: Batavia, Elburn, Geneva, Kaneville, LaFox, Maple Park, Mooseheart, St. Charles, Virgil, Wasco and Wayne.
In closing, the Red Cross would like to extend special thanks to its 2009 sponsors. They could not have put on this important annual event without their generosity. One and all, they are our heroes.
