Nominations open for school board

Nominating petition forms for the April 7, 2009 school board election in Mundelein High School District 120 are now available. Forms may be picked up in the office of the board secretary at MHS at 1350 West Hawley Street on any business day between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Petitions must be filed in the same office no earlier than 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, if the district office is open. If it's not, filing begins on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Filing deadline is 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 26.

Candidates' names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the secretary's office.

Four seats on the seven-member board of education will be filled at the April 7 election. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2013.

To be eligible, a school board member must be, on the date of election, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, a registered voter and a resident of the State of Illinois and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election. Elections are nonpartisan and board candidates do not indicate a political party affiliation. Candidates should be aware of financial conflict-of-interest limitations set forth in state law.

Library seeks health exhibitors

The Vernon Area Public Library District is looking for exhibitors for a Health, Wellness and Fitness Expo from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 25. Local health, fitness and wellness organizations will be at the library to share key factors in leading a healthy life, featuring displays, chair massages, blood pressure checks, health screenings, food samples, a healthy foods cooking demo and an appearance from Chicago Bears official team mascot Staley da Bear. Singers welcome new voices

The Village Singers, sponsored by Lake Zurich Park District, are resuming rehearsals for their upcoming concert schedule. As always they are adding new members to their non-auditioned community chorus. Many of the members have been singing together for several years and represent a broad range of ages, professions, interest and musical expertise.

The Village Singers present two major concerts throughout the year and have also performed for various community events as well as nursing homes, hospitals, Art In The Barn and PADS. They are currently preparing for their holiday concert to be performed on the first weekend in December. Soloists and ensembles are also featured in the performances

Rehearsals are on Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the community room at the Lakeview Community Church, 330 S. Rand Road, Lake Zurich. For details, call (847) 726-2011.
