Renowned pianist performs at library
Noted pianist Louis Landon will perform from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. The free concert will take place in the library's Audiovisual Theatre on the main floor. Landon has performed and toured with Mikhail Baryshnikov, John Payne, Rupert Holmes and John Hall. Tour the world in four days at Harper
Harper College is going around the wold in just four days - offering the public an international bazaar of Mexican mariachi bands, German and Turkish food, Middle Eastern dancing and a slew of discussion on everything from the ways Arabs are portrayed in popular films to Khmer culture and the Incan Empire.
The college's annual International Education celebration runs from Monday, Nov. 17-Thursday, Nov. 20, across campus at 1200 Algonquin Road, Palatine. Free and open to all. Visit harpercollege.edu or call (847) 925-6750.
Help Dove Park to get a makeover
Palatine Park District is asking the community for help in winning a $25,000 makeover for Dove Park. Residents can vote in the "Staples Dream Park Challenge with the Bears,"a local park improvement initiative, to make Dove Park, 1802 Green Lane South, the winner.
During the challenge 15 parks throughout the Chicago area, including Dove Park, will compete for the chance to win the grand prize to be used for park improvements and a winner's celebration featuring Bears' star Adewale Ogunleye at Soldier Field.
Residents can vote once per day at StaplesDreamPark.com/Bears, and pick up a free "power card' at any Chicago area Staples store to have their online vote count 10 extra times through Nov. 17.
