Briefs: Costco considered
The Mettawa village board will continue discussion of a proposed Costco store at today at 7:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 26225 Riverwoods Boulevard. The meeting is a continuation of an Oct. 14 session regarding the proposal for a Costco store on 22 acres at the southwest corner of Route 60 and the Tri-State Tollway. Village officials said the plan could generate $1 million a year in sales tax revenue, but residents have been critical of the proposal.
Chicago police investigating homicide of Round Lake man
A Round Lake man was shot and killed Tuesday night in Chicago, authorities said. Chicago police officials are investigating the homicide of Anthony Murdock, 22, of the 1000 block of Railroad Avenue. Officials at the Cook County Medical Examiners office said Murdock was shot in the 7000 block of Perry Street on the city's South Side. He was pronounced dead at 1:06 a.m. Wednesday at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, medical examiner officials said. An autopsy Wednesday morning found Murdock was shot in the back.
Hotel used approved
A hotel will be allowed as part of the Vernon Hills Town Center development at Route 45 and Milwaukee Avenue. Although no specific hotel or operator has been selected, the village board informally agreed to the change, which calls for a 5-story building with approximately 125 rooms. Original plans did not envision a hotel on the site but the developer, VHTC LLC, said allowing one as an option is important to the future success of the project. The village board also agreed to increase the total number of condo units allowed on another portion of the project by five to 85 units, but that will not be built until next year. Some concerns had surfaced regarding the height of the hotel, but any specific building plan will require village board review and approval.
