Chamber members can win tickets to Solheim Cup

The Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce has received several special tickets for the Solheim Cup and will make them available to membership through raffles.

The Solheim Cup will be held Aug. 17-23, 2009 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove. The premier golf event features three days of practice and special events before 12 top players from the Ladies European Tour compete in a three-day match play against 12 top players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

The first raffle is for one six-day PING Pavilion ticket worth $350. Tickets will be sold at $20 each at the general membership luncheon that begins at noon Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District, 25 S. Municipal Drive.

A winner will be selected after 25 tickets have been sold.

The PING Pavilion ticket provides admission to the grounds of Rich Harvest Farms and all facilities set up for spectators, as well as admission to the PING Pavilion hospitality tent behind the 17th green.

The Pavilion provides a climate-controlled environment with a patio, seating areas, televisions, restrooms and an extensive menu. (Food is extra.) The PING Pavilion ticket also includes VIP parking.

Members who will not be at the luncheon can purchase a raffle ticket by calling Shari at (630) 466-7895.

Speaking of the Nov. 13 meeting, Rebecca Gengler, director of the Homemade Gourmet, will discuss the mystery of networking. Luncheon tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

At Waubonsee:

The Waubonsee Community College Jazz Band will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 in the auditorium of the college's Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. No advance tickets are required.

The concert will feature guest artist Russ Phillips on the trombone. Phillips has performed many different types of music all over the world, with a special emphasis on traditional jazz, which he has performed for the past six decades. Phillips received a 2004 Honoree Award from the Del Segno Musicians Association of Chicago for his contribution to the Chicago music scene, especially as the "keeper of the flame" in traditional jazz.
