Worker hurt after explosion in Mt. Prospect

A Friday afternoon explosion at a Mount Prospect auto shop sent one person to the hospital, officials said.

The Mount Prospect Fire Department were dispatched to Bruce Automotive, 422 E. Northwest Hwy., for a report of an explosion, Deputy Fire Chief John Malcolm said.

Upon arrival, firefighters found light smoke within the building. The explosion came from a flammable liquid, but the source was unknown as of Friday evening, Malcolm said.

One person was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with minor injuries, Malcolm said.

The incident was described as an accident.
