Northbrook World War II vet to share his story

Earl D. Epsteen, a Northbrook resident who served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, will share his experiences with an audience at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Mount Prospect Public Library, 10 S. Emerson St.

The program is being co-sponsored by the library and the Mount Prospect Historical Society in honor of Veterans Day.

Titled "World War II Stories You Won't Find in History Books," Epsteen's program will describe in vivid detail how he transported troops to Omaha Beach in support of the D-Day invasion and how his transport ship survived a direct hit by a German torpedo.

He will also discuss how, as a member of a top secret Navy unit assigned to Gen. George Patton's Third Army, he played a significant role in helping Patton cross the Rhine River into Germany.

If you would like to preview the program or cannot be there that night, you can watch an interview with Epsteen at www.mppl.org. Go to the "about us" area and click on "Library Life television." There you will see a list of recorded segments and you can choose the Epsteen interview.
