Small fire hits Naperville grocery store
Shoppers and employees at Super H Mart were evacuated for about two hours Wednesday morning after a small fire broke out in the Naperville grocery store.
Firefighters were called to 1295 E. Ogden Ave. at 9:14 a.m. after an employee reported smoke in the rear of the store.
The department used a thermal imaging camera to find the source of the smoke, which turned out to be an HVAC motor in the mechanical room, according to Acting Assistant Fire Chief Dushan Budimir.
"We suspect the motor seized or caught on fire and it burned up the fan belt that's there," Budimir said.
The fire itself was minimal and mostly out by the time firefighters located the motor.
Both the smoke and fire were confined to the rear of the store but caused about $7,500 in damage to mechanical equipment and food.
All customers and employees were evacuated and none were injured.
The store was able to reopen Wednesday after firefighters, the DuPage County Health Department and city building inspectors gave their approval.
