Library discusses 'Our Lady':
Aurora Public Library will sponsor a Spanish-language presentation, "Our Lady of Guadalupe: More than a Religious Symbol" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Main Library, 1 E. Benton St. Miguel Arias, theologian and author of the book "Saints of the Americas" will talk about the Lady of Guadalupe's apparition in Mexico, and Aztec and Christian beliefs and symbols to explain how her image has become not just a religious symbol, but representative of a whole nation's identity. Presentations showing how West Chicago Elementary School District 33 plans to handle enrollment growth and meet the needs of 21st-century learners will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at the West Chicago Middle School Library, 238 E. Hazel St. Superintendent Ed Leman will explain plans that include building additions to bring sixth-graders to the middle school. Residents are encouraged to asked questions and offer comments. The Fox River-Geneva American Legion Post 75 has a fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. the third Friday of the month at the post, Second and James streets, Geneva. Choices include fried cod and shrimp, fried chicken, french fries, coleslaw and a changing variety of side dishes. Dinner prices start at $7.50, and a cash bar is available.

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra's Holiday Showcase returns Dec. 6 to the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates for one night only. The 7:30 p.m. event will feature the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, live performances by Cirque du Soleil entertainers, Olympic ice dancers, and a chorus of hundreds.
