Motorcyclist hurt in Crystal Lake crash

A South Elgin man was listed in stable condition Tuesday night undergoing treatment for injuries suffered earlier in the day when his motorcycle collided with a car near McHenry County College.

Police said Louis Marin, 57, was driving his Harley-Davidson eastbound on Route 14 at Lucas Road about 2:39 p.m. Tuesday when a car attempting to cross the highway pulled in front of him, Crystal Lake police said.

Marin was transported from the scene by ambulance to Centegra Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock then to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by Flight for Life helicopter.

The car's driver, Zachary Amato, 18, of Johnsburg, was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries and released, police said.

Debris from the crash struck another car in the intersection, but its driver, Catherine Walters, 24, of Union, was not injured.

Police partially closed Route 14 until shortly before 5 p.m. while investigating the crash and clearing the wreckage.

The incident remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department's Traffic Services Unit. Charges are expected, police said.
